As well as an opportunity to develop cycling skills, get bikes serviced and marked, and try out a range of different bicycles, visitors were treated to high-flying BMX demonstrations. Adding a fun twist, local bike shop Outspoken Cycles also brought along bespoke bikes to create tasty smoothies, blow bubbles and race Scalextric through pedal power.

Wintringham’s travel planning partner, smart journeys, was on hand with cycling and walking maps, lift sharing information and a pledge board, bus timetables, details of local incentives and initiatives, and freebies including bike lights and seat covers, to support active travel choices.

Cambridgeshire Outdoors’ team from Grafham Water also brought cycling activities and shared information on its centre and courses that support transformational outdoor experiences for children, young people and adults to build confidence, develop teamwork and support mental health and wellbeing.

Pimp My Fish food truck and Tony’s Ices helped ensure visitors stayed fuelled with a delicious range of dishes, beverages and iced treats.

Christine Littlewood, Community Development Lead for Wintringham, said: “This year’s Wintringham on Wheels was a fantastic event full of energy, fun and pedal power!

Whether you’re a beginner, a family looking for fun outings together, or a serious athlete, cycling is a great way to get fit and stay active. This year, we also showcased other options that support active and sustainable travel choices.”

Wintringham residents are supported with a range of discounts and incentives to encourage active travel and help them lead healthy and low-carbon lives. As well as being within walking and cycling distance of St Neots station and town centre, Wintringham currently has around 4kms of walking and cycling paths – extending to 9km when the development is complete – to help people explore the newest part of the town.
