From Monday 16 September until Friday 20 September (into Saturday morning) the road will be closed between the A428 roundabout, back to the roundabout with Bret Road for Wintringham and Stone Hill for Loves Farm. The road closures will start at 8pm and the road will reopen at 6am each day during the works.
While the road is closed all homes will remain accessible, but a diversion will be in place along the A428, using Barford and Cromwell Road to access Cambridge Road from the west – see map below.
These works mark the final stages of the 11 months programme that has pulled together a series of infrastructure requirements for both Wintringham and Monksfields developments, with the planned improvements to Cambridge Road, into one programme. The programme has been designed to keep the flow of traffic along this road open for as long as possible, but these final works will enable the new roundabouts and roads created to connect fully onto Cambridge Road.
Rebecca Britton, from Urban&Civic, one of the developers working with contractor NATTA to complete the works said:
“We are very conscious that this has been a major programme of works and apologise again for the inconveniences caused. Pulling everything together into one programme should mean we do not have to do such major works again. We are grateful for residents for bearing with us over the last few months and are glad the end is now in sight.
“These final works would not be possible without a full road closure – as the team need to tie the new aspects into the existing road – and that closure is happening at night to reduce the impact on road users. This will only leave the white lines and final touches to happen the following week.”
The works undertaken include a new roundabout at the Pelham Road junction (to replace the existing T-junction), three new junctions to serve the future Monksfields development, new cycle paths, bus stops/shelters and pedestrian crossing points. The new design will also make the route safer for all users and will enable a 30mph speed limit to be implemented when complete.
Rebecca added: “There is likely to be some noise during these works, which the teams will try and limit to the earlier hours of the evening. Noise is likely to be louder on the Monday and Tuesday nights, and should lessen as the week goes on. NATTA’s work has been designed and agreed with County Council Highways and National Highways, and will be compliant with all health and safety and noise regulations.”
