The event, which is taking place from 11am-3pm on Saturday, 8 June 2024 on the school plaza at Wintringham, is a great way to find out more about the facilities onsite as well as
about the vast array of local clubs and groups who provide hundreds of sports and activity options around the local area. It will also provide an opportunity to talk to the communities team and help shape what is included in the sports hub coming forward in the second phase and other future opportunities for facilities at Wintringham.
The leisure trail currently provides a loop of approximately 3.5km for walking, running and cycling around the first phase of Wintringham. The route takes in growing woodland and natural habitats being created at the heart of the development, as well as historic brooks. As later phases emerge, it will also expand to cover the whole perimeter of the
development.
A guided group walk and run will be taking place during the day stopping at the fitness stations along the leisure trail to demonstrate the range of accessible fitness equipment available – and how to use it! The walk starts at 11am and the run at 1.30pm, meeting in front of Wintringham Primary Academy.
Local sports and activities being showcased include Tai Chi, mixed martial arts, bootcamp, tennis, pilates and dance fitness. Football Fun Factory will also be providing incredible
childhood football experiences for boys and girls of all ages and abilities.
Local clubs attending to showcase their sport and activities include St Neots Dragon Boat Club, St Neots Rowing Club, Eaton Socon Cricket Club and U3A, so there should be something to inspire all ages and abilities.
Paul Murfin, from Wintringham master developer Urban&Civic, said: “Health and wellbeing are important to everyone and moving into a new home provides a great opportunity to establish active new routines as part of your new lifestyle.
“Urban&Civic is delighted to be working with Living Sport to connect residents with existing sports groups, events and activities in the area, and help identify gaps and shape the future delivery of sports and activities at Wintringham for existing and new communities.
“We hope the Sport & Wellbeing Taster Day inspires residents to make regular use of the leisure trail and fitness equipment, as well as joining local sports groups to stay active and
make new friends.”
The activities at the event are free and available on a first come, first served basis. Linton Kitchen’s food truck will be selling bagels and bakes throughout the day.
Sports and recreational facilities in Phase 2 of Wintringham will include formal outdoor sports facilities with a range of pitches and courts, as well as informal open space for active recreation such as walking, running and cycling. Equipped play areas and play on the way will also encourage the youngest residents to explore and make friends in a safe and stimulating environment.
