Wintringham residents rally behind racket sports

With a range of local clubs available and David Lloyd St Neots opening in the autumn, Wintringham residents were given an opportunity to discover the variety of racket sports available in the area and challenge neighbours to a game.

Organised by Wintringham master developer Urban&Civic in partnership with Living Sport, over 50 adults attended the racket taster evening at Wintringham Primary Academy to try their hand at tennis, badminton, pickleball and table tennis.

As well as the team from Living Sport, qualified coaches and representatives from local clubs – including Nick Peck Tennis, St Neots Table Tennis Club and Extreme 360 Padel Club – offered guidance, shared tips and answered questions about ways to get involved in regular play.

Andy Coles from Living Sport said: “We’d like to thank the local racket clubs for coming along to share their passion for their respective sports, and to the residents for their energy and enthusiasm.  The relaxed and inclusive atmosphere encouraged participants of all ages and abilities to get involved, try new sports and enjoy being active together.  Swing ball also proved a surprise hit on the plaza and is a great way to stay active in your own back garden.”

The event also provided an opportunity to gather feedback from residents about their sport and leisure interests and the types of clubs they would like to see developed locally. There will be further opportunities for the community to inform sport and leisure delivery at Wintringham during a formal consultation with Living Sport later this year.

Christine Littlewood, Community Development Lead for Wintringham, said: “Events like this are a fantastic way to bring people together and help residents discover new activities and connect with neighbours. It was great to see so many people getting involved, trying something new, and sharing their ideas for the future of sport and leisure at Wintringham. This feedback will be invaluable as we continue to develop inclusive and accessible opportunities for everyone.”
