With taster sessions held during the Autumn term proving popular, 3rd St Neots (Wintringham) Scout Group fully opened this year. Meeting at Wintringham Primary Academy two evenings a week during term time, Squirrels (4-6yrs), Beavers (6-8 yrs), Cubs (8-10½ yrs) and Scouts (10½ -14 yrs) are now enjoying weekly adventures.

On 6 February young people, families, friends and volunteers were joined by Mayor of St Neots’ Cllr Richard Slade and Cllrs Katie Dundas-Todorov, Stephen Ferguson and Marcus Pickering to celebrate the official opening of the new Wintringham Scout Group.

As well as an evening of fun, activities and cake to celebrate the launch, the young people and volunteers made their Scouting promise. As part of their pledge, Squirrels and Beavers promise to do their best to be kind and helpful and love our world, whilst Cubs and Scouts seek to uphold Scout values, help other people and keep the Cub/Scout Law.

Emma Canterbury, Group Lead Volunteer and Wintringham resident, expressed her pride in seeing the Group established: “It’s a real privilege to be the Lead Volunteer for 3rd St Neots (Wintringham). Watching so many young people and volunteers get involved, try new things, grow in confidence, and build new friendships has been incredibly rewarding. The Group already feels like a special part of the community, and I can’t wait to see what we achieve together.”

The Group is looking forward to building its programme of outdoor adventures, community projects and badge work as well as providing opportunities for young people to discover new skills in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Christine Littlewood, Community Development for Wintringham master developer Urban&Civic, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the new Scout Group to Wintringham. It’s a wonderful addition to the clubs and activities available locally and wouldn’t be possible without the incredible enthusiasm and commitment of the volunteers giving their time and energy to create opportunities for young people to learn, grow and belong.”

Children in blue uniforms with yellow scarves sit at tables doing arts and crafts in a classroom. Adults stand nearby, and colorful drawings are on the tables.

The Group’s sections are nearly at capacity with Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs full and limited spaces left in Scouts.  They have an active waiting list and are planning toexpand if interest continues to grow.  To enable this, they are looking for volunteers to help with one of the sections or as part of its Trustee team.
